Van Sciver Elementary School

Haddon Township, NJ

Adjacent to Saddlers Woods in Haddon Township, NJ, ThinkGreen provided skillful construction as well as design input for a meadow and a 15,000 square foot bioretention area utilizing 100% native species, a cost-efficient engineered soil mix, and dense plantings that created a very low maintenance green infrastructure improvement for the school.

The bioretention area collects runoff from surrounding areas and school property; slows, cleans and infiltrates the runoff; and helps reduce downstream erosion impacts in Saddlers Woods -- an old growth forest patch severely impacted by erosion.  The project enhances the native habitat of the area, creates a learning zone that supports the curriculum, and is a beautiful addition to the school’s surroundings.
